Identifying And Working With Different Learning & Communication Styles

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this workshop, staff will be able to:

·        Understand different Learning and Communication Styles in themselves and children 

·        Be able to identify traits of different Learning and Communication Styles in children that may explain a child’s reluctance to integrate in certain situations

·        Appreciate their own preferred Learning and Communication Style and the strengths it brings

·        Build better rapport with team members with a greater appreciation of each other’s preferred Learning and Communication Style

·        Understand the influence that you have on the children in your care

·        Identify your strengths as a care giver

·        Be able to motivate yourself and feel confident in the workplace

 

Course Outline

·        Introduction

·        The 4 Main Learning and Communication Styles

o       Visual

o       Auditory

o       Kinaesthetic

o       Auditory Digital

·        Traits of Each Learning and Communication Style

·        Which is YOUR Preferred Learning or Communication Style?

o       Exercise to identify each of the delegates preferred Learning Style

·        Break

·        Feedback

o       Introducing the ‘Feedback Sandwich’

o       Understanding how to give and receive feedback from peers

·        Identifying Learning and Communication Styles in Children

o       Workshop exercises utilising Case Studies for the Practitioners to identify the preferred Learning or Communication style of the child they feature

o       Roleplaying in groups of 3, one plays child, one is nursery practitioner and the other is in an observational role providing feedback

o       Switching roles and situations ensures empathy for each role and the chance to test new learning immediately

·        Accommodating Different Learning and Communication Styles

o       Return to group to jointly discuss the team’s findings from the exercise and develop options for accommodating all learning styles in activities

o       How can what has been learned help the staff to function better as a team?

·        Round Up

o       Self reflection exercise to facilitate the individual putting new learning and experience into practice

o       Self reflection exercise also reminds individual the influence that they have on the children in their care

o       Builds motivation and confidence in new skills

o       Brings together the learning and the application of this learning into the workplace
